The rooftop sniper, it's been a popular character roll play in video game first person shooter scenarios. Climbing to the rooftop, then positioning oneself in a sniper nest, it's always been a popular scenario in the video game space. Both the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on President Trump's life and the assassination of Charlie Kirk, in Salt, Lake City, Utah, have similar modus, operendi. Both snipers pre planed their insertion, and both snipers pre-planned their extraction. Both snipers, were on the rooftop. That is, both snipers, were in a look down position focused on a funneled pocket, the speaker, surrounded by a crowd of people. Both snipers used scoped high powered rifles. Both snipers were able to gain access to the rooftop with virtually no one in authority becoming aware of their position. Both snipers were focused on the primary target not the collateral damage of the spectators. However, the Orem, Utah sniper used a long rifle with much more power and range. Was this? just coincidence, or was this? a learning curve increase. That is, the Orem, Utah sniper, learned from the mistakes of the Butler, Pennsylvania, sniper. The target in the salt Lake City case was much softer. That is, police protection was far less than that of the President. Yet, the significance and "shock and owe" effect was magnified by the presence of a large college crowd. US Army Sergeant Nicholas Ranstad ( who holds the record for the longest sniper kill) reported on the Daily Mail that the sniper was prepared, but made some novice mistakes. Sergeant Ranstad suggested The sniper was going for a headshot, but didn't calculate the windage properly, and the shot resulted in a neck wound. Due to the shooter's deficiency and skills as compared to a professional sniper, Sergeant Ranstad referred to the sniper as an "internet Sniper".
